Submission 09
F,
I think about you a lot. You left such an impression on me at quite a young age and I've always been so grateful, even though I can't quite pinpoint why. I think it's just because you were just so unapologetically 'you' and you were able to say so much without saying much at all.
My grandmother loved you. She knew a truly good person when she met one. And it's funny because I can only picture you in a single moment - like a photo and it's of the last time we spent together, sitting at her kitchen table. It must have been before you flew back home after what must have been months spent with us.
Black jeans, a black t-shirt with a band or something retro wearing off the front. I don't remember that much more other than moments of conversation talking about family, art and your dogs. Your smile was small but significant. Maybe that's why I see this moment being in the sunshine-lit kitchen when in fact, I think it was quite late in the evening after a massive family dinner.
I hope we looked after you enough when you were away from home and I hope that got to do everything you wanted to do because that's something you taught me and I'm always trying.
Much love,
M
