Dear Russ,

Today would be your 50th birthday and its such a bloody shame we are not sharing a pint and reminiscing about the old days of Park Drive, South Newbarns, 6th form, the Berry and all the rest of the great times we had.

You really were the center point of our group of mates and since you left it's never been the same. But the old lads keep in touch because of our shared loss now, just as we did before, but because you brought us all together! We all wanted to spend time with you. You’ll never know how many of us lost our best mate that day. 

I hope you found peace, but as mates, I know what you’d say if the shoe was on the other foot and you were writing to me. And you’d be right.
