The Healing Narratives of Suicide Loss Podcast is hosted by psychotherapist Sue Egan, who lost her brother to suicide over 4 years ago. The premise of the podcast is to allow listeners, and others bereaved by suicide, to hear stories of suicide loss and the experiences of others. The podcast aims to be about hope, and healing in order to hopefully reduce the stigma attached to suicide-related grief. The podcast covers themes of language around suicide, addiction, mental health struggles, attachment and coping with the loss of a loved one.

Sue gives others a platform to share their stories of suicide bereavement as each episode highlights a different person’s journey and loss. The idea of being stronger together is at the heart of The Healing Narratives of Suicide Loss as unless we hear the stories of others, we cannot get a true picture of the complexities of suicide, and the realities of life for those left behind. However, the first episode focuses on Sue’s personal story. In this episode Sue discusses how she dealt with her older brother Andrew’s suicide, and how she is driven to listen to the stories of those who are also bereaved by suicide, as although it is painful, it helps her heal and can make us feel less alone.

One of our Ambassadors Hannah features in an episode where she shares her story of the loss of her mum to suicide, and the journey she has been on since her bereavement. Hannah discusses the feelings she was left with after her mum’s suicide and how she experienced periods of avoidance, and how she eventually began to reduce her negative thoughts and feelings. Hannah used social media as an outlet to share her grief and as a result she has developed a community of over 2000 followers where she and others support each other in their grief.

We would recommend listening to The Healing Narratives of Suicide Loss Podcast if you have been personally bereaved by suicide and you would like to hear similar stories from others about their losses and the lessons they have learnt from their grief.
