A podcast focusing on the science of psychology and mental health

The Savvy Psychologist’s Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Mental Health is a podcast hosted by Dr Monica Johnson, focusing on the science of psychology and mental health. In the form of short and easily digestible episodes, this podcast touches on relevant and relatable topics such as suicide, therapy, sleep and general mental health and self-care.

Dr Johnson provides listeners with a sympathetic ear and evidence-based approaches drawn from research to explain the causes behind emotions and feelings like joy, fear, and anxiety, and in order to help listeners understand their relationships with others, and with themselves. The podcast aims to help you live a happier and healthier emotional life. Whilst this is an American podcast, it discusses scientific approaches which are backed up with research and therefore the topics are relevant to everyone, everywhere.

One of our favourite episodes, “8 Myths About Therapy, Busted” talks about some of the common myths or misconceptions about therapy. This episode discusses the fact that therapy can be hard work, and you may feel some discomfort in your sessions as it won’t always be a straightforward journey.

We would recommend listening to this podcast if you enjoy short form and educational podcasts that can help you improve your general mental health and wellbeing.
